How do we get started?
Call (864-643-9309) or email (email@example.com) me and we set up a time to meet. During the visit at your home, I determine your kitchen layout, food preferences and menu ideas. We go from there based on your needs.
Where do you do the cooking?
I prepare food at your home in your kitchen.
Is this service the same as catering or meal delivery?
Some people don't understand they are hiring a Service and not buying meals. I cannot and do not cook the food outside of your home and I don't give any two clients the same Service. The entrees fit your specific needs.
How long will you be in my home?
I will be in your home for typically 6-8 hours, although it will depend on the menu and service needed. There's not a lot of short cuts in made-from-scratch cooking. Typically the cooking takes place during the day while the client is away, although this isn't always the case.
Is there anything I should do to prepare?
Yes. Being able to get in and out of the house is important. Since I will be leaving great meals some space is needed as I will be cooking and packaging meals that will need to be refrigerated. Also while I am there your kitchen is my work space. Please allow me to work without too many interruptions. Thanks!
Why are all prices not the same?
Different strokes for different folks. It’s all in the details. The details are how I can make the house I am serving happiest. If it takes more time or food costs are higher it usually costs more money and needs to be charged accordingly. Good food takes time!
What type of payment do you accept?
Cash or check. Service fee is paid at the time of agreeing to a specific cook date. The cost of groceries will vary so can be paid on the cook date.
Why is the cost higher than a restaurant?
The fees actually represent all of the components that make up a professional personal chef service: customizing recipes to reflect your wants and requests, grocery shopping, cooking the meals plus packaging, labeling and storing your entrees and leaving a clean kitchen are some of these components. There are many more in a small business. A restaurant you have to drive there, possibly wait for a table, hope for a good server and if you did have a special request there isn't any guarantee they will get it right or be prepared for it. Then you have to tip the server get back in the car and drive home. The restaurant makes food assembly style and with higher volume in sales can charge less. A personal chef service you get great food made specifically for you without the constraints of a menu and can eat at your leisure on your couch!
Are you insured?
I am insured through State Farm Insurance Agency.
How long will the food last?
Most dishes will last 5 days. Some foods such as seafood are preferable to eat in the first couple days.
What if I would like additional side dishes or entree portions?
I'd be happy to provide that service for an additional fee
Do I have to be home?
That is up to you but the service works without you at home
What areas do you cover?
I will drive to most locations in the upstate counties of Greenville, Spartanburg, Pickens, Anderson or Oconee counties. I travel to you.
What menus do you offer?
Sample menus are listed. It is a personal service and menus are customized to please the client not the chef.
Are the meals frozen or can you freeze them?
My meals are made to be eaten fresh. If you don't have the time to eat the meals I can't guarantee the quality will be good once frozen.
Can I afford it?
That is up for the customer to decide but grocery receipts, takeout and restaurant receipts add up. This is also a service that allows you to reduce food waste by giving you proper portions.
Do I pay you ahead of each cooking date? Payment is typically made ahead of the scheduled cook date.
What is the difference between a personal chef and a private chef?
A personal chef serves several clients, usually one per day providing multiple meals customized to client requests and requirements. These meals are packaged and stored so that the client may enjoy them at their leisure in the future. A private chef is an employee of an individual or family full time and may or may not live in their home cooking three or more meals a day.
Do I heat the food?
Yes. Meals are packaged with suggested dates to heat and left in the refrigerator. Arrangements can be made to leave a meal in the crockpot.
Can you use my containers?
Uniform size containers take less storage space in the refrigerator and are stackable. I am open to using some of the existing containers in your cabinet. A container setup is advisable as I will have to add on container fees each cooking date if there is not a setup. If you will save the containers for me that held the entrees you have already enjoyed, I will take those back each cooking date, so we will actually be rotating containers in and out of your kitchen regularly.
